Sam Smith is our first swimmer to join the County elite
squad, Derventio eXcel. What this means to the club is that for
the first time in our history, our swimmers have a pathway from
learning to swim to competing at the highest level, without leaving
the club.

Speedo League Round 2 - 13th October
|
|
|
We went to the second round of the speedo league on Saturday
13/11/04,hoping for a better result than in round 1. This
year 10 teams are to be relegated and we are too close to
the bottom of the league for comfort.
It was an exciting gala with the lead changing several times.
A the start of the relays, we held a 2 point lead. All credit
to the eventual winners, Linslade, who won 5 out of the last
8 relays.
Our swimmers did brilliantly, 19 personal best times, excellent
team spirit. We are not down yet and I am looking forward
to round 3.

Speedo League Round 1 - 9th October
|
|
|
|
On the 9th of October we competed in the first round of the Speedo
League. This year 10 clubs are to be relegated in order that the
3 Divisions can be of a similar size. We had a number of swimmers
missing with illness and our 5th placing was not what we wanted.
However we still had 11 swimmers perform personal best times, an
excellent achievement. I know everyone gave 100%. Another positive
note is that we had no disqualifications, so well done. Our current
position in the league is on the notice board. We go into round
2 facing a fight for survival. I am confident we can remain in Division
2 if we understand one simple principal; the honour of
the club comes first.

| Well done to every swimmer who competed
in this extremely close gala. This is a brilliant result and reflects
the hard work you all have put in over the year. Last December we
were 10 pts behind Eckington in the Speedo League, so this is a great
achievement. We had 43 pbs and this does not include our young and
new first time competitors. Congratulations to Ainsley for knocking
1.45 s off her 100m fc and blasting 5.2 s off her 100 bk to achieve
2 Midland District qualifying times. |

Bridlington Gala
|
|
Well done to everyone who swam in the gala at Brid, we all had
a great time. I think that most people went on the fair and if you
didn't see Alan on the frog hopper you missed a real treat. Now
to the gala, everyone swam well but special mention must go to Rebecca
Smith 6, Toby Dawes 5 and Sophie Mahadevan 7 who swam for the
under 10s! They did our club proud and we won the gala 81-61.

and two hours in a fifty metre pool. It was a good experience and
very nice to do.

But it was a real team victory which was matched with a great team
spirit, we even had the coach driver cheering the team on. The win

Michael Doughty Trophy
|
| Rykneld attended the Michael
Doughty Trophy Graded Gala hosted by Sutton Swimming Club. The gala
gave the coaches at Rykneld the opportunity to give valuable gala
experience to a number of our up and coming swimmers. It was a close
call for first place between Ripley Rascals and Rykneld right from
the start, the two teams were neck and neck. The final result hinged
on the last race of the night 'the cannon' but with full credit to
all our swimmers and the coaching staff. Rykneld came away clinching
first place and the magnificent Michael Doughty Trophy. |
